Re: The Emporium on Market Street

I'm happy to read that the great rotunda dome has been saved in the Emporium building's makeover. Some of my early memories are of being towed around the Emporium basement by my mother's hand. I remember the foot X-ray console and always asked to see my green bones. We usually lunched at the sandwich shop in the basement's rear corner, and for dessert visited the "Frosted-Malted" booth, (grandfather of the Frostie?) The 4th floor toy department was my favorite spot, along with the roof garden. The Emporium also was my introduction to escalators. They were quite elegant, trimmed with stainless steel and given a soft, silvery polish, with bright orange handrail belts.....
