Paul, I'm not sure I remember the details. I was an Army brat, born in the Presidio, attended Winfield Scott through the fourth grade -(we rode to school in the back of an Army truck). Dad was then transferred to open up Camp Roberts and we joined him in 1941. Then came the war and by May of 1942 Dad was sent to England and we moved back to the City and into the Richmond District. So I was only at Lafayette for the sixth grade. I remember those bank accounts, but the memories are jumbled together from the three different schools.
What I remember most from that time were the Defense Stamps we bought @ 10 cents each, sticking them into a book until we had enough to buy a War Bond. I don't think I ever got a full book.
