Myron, another coveted classroom task was chalk board eraser cleaning. Near the end of a school day if one was lucky you and a partner might be chosen to clean the chalk board tray and take the classroom erasers outside where it was expected the erasers would be slapped against the playground surface to remove the accumulated chalk dust. Of course outside and unsupervised temptation towards mischief wasn't unusual. If evidence of ‘horsing around’ wasn’t ‘erased’ well enough or returning to the classroom appearing to wear as much chalk dust as the erasers left the classroom with, well that might be an invitation to spend a half an hour seated at your desk after school dismissal. Does anyone else have similiar memories?
