Karen: The "Sunset District" runs all the way from the "inner Sunset", (i.e.,) area from around Stanyan St., out to about 19th Av, thru the "outer Sunset" (westward to the beach.) Parkside district, originally called, "The Parkside," was separated by sand from the Sunset district until after WWII. Only a few of the "Avenues" west of 20th Avenue were not separated by sand dunes, (a two block area roughly between Ortega & Quintara Sts.)
