Re: Boxing legends of the Sunset

The Richmond is not the Sunset, but I was very impressed to learn (thanks to Ken Burns' suprlative documentary) that heavyweight boxing champ Jack Johnson stayed at Seal Rock House and trained there in preparation for his fight against Jim Jeffries in 1910. The fight was originally planned for Emeryville, but at the next-to-last minute it was moved to San Francisco and then at the last moment shifted to Reno. The Seal Rock House was on 48th Ave and about Balboa. I imagine that Jack did a lot of his road-work in Golden Gate Park.
