There are actually some pretty good statistics available on the racial mix of the Sunset in the 60s and 70s. I'll try to dig them up and post them here.
I think it's almost as fascinating the *perception* people have, what their memories call back. Did it seem all-white, or was there still a memory of the neighborhood being all-white while it had already changed?
Today the Sunset gives the appearance of a Chinese-American neighborhood, and the stats are getting up there, but there are many Irish immigrants here again, Filipinos, Middle-easterners, and Russians...
San Francisco is just an amazing town for this sort of thing.
