He was certainly important to a certain generation...but since his station was not of/for the younger crowd, there were certainly jocks on KYA and KEWB and later KFRC that had a greater following with the "new" demographic. Gene Nelson comes to mind. And then with the coming of FM radio (first KMPX followed by KSAN) the AM stations lost a degree of appeal.
