During part of my childhood I lived across the street from the St. Francis Academy from 1955-1958 (at 758 Seventh Avenue). The Academy was on the corner of 7th and Cabrillo (not Fulton), and it was eventually demolished and replaced by a Safeway. While I lived there in the mid-1950s, from the bay window of our flat I would often watch the riders on their horses trot down 7th Avenue, then wait for the light to change at Fulton, and go on their merry way into Golden Gate Park.
