Paul Judge and I have been thrashing out the conflicting names of Baker Beach / Baker's Beach for about a decade now, but we do agree on one thing: where in tarnation did the name Marshall's Beach come from?

I grew up in the City and worked at GGNRA for nearly thirty years, including many years as a curator at the Presidio, and NEVER heard the name Marshall's Beach. Paul and I suspect it didn't show up until about 20 years ago.

The name's origin came up recently at a gathering of SF historians yet none of us had an answer. But of course, we were all gray beards sitting around a table, so maybe some younger SF historians can enlighten us.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I'll pop for a large pizza with all the toppings for someone who can come up a documented source.
