I've been writing a family history for several years - It begins in the 1890s and goes decade by decade, covers a brief history of each decade's events and adds the family story for that time. I'm in the 2000s now.
I came to dislike the '60s. We had married in '55, had children and I was excited to think we might reach the moon! Then...Here's some of what I wrote:
President Kennedy set a goal of landing a man on the moon and bringing him home safely within ten years. The Space Age had arrived. So had the Age of Aquarius. the Civil Rights Movement, Power for African Americans, The Bay of Pigs. the Vietnam War,
the Pill, the sexual revolution, assassinations, student unrest and protest, Rock and Roll. Folk Music, The Summer of Love, Hippies,Woodstock, the drug culture, the Counter Culture, social revolution and a generation of change.
And Bob Dylan wrote: The Times they are a Changin'
Come mothers and fathers throughout the land
And don't criticize what you don't understand
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Well, Bob was wrong about us, but he was right about the
Times - they surely did change - I'm not sure for the better...
