My father, a WWII Army Air Force vet, turned 95 a couple weeks ago. He's mostly let his photos, medals, maps and other souvenirs do the talking when it comes to his wartime experiences, though a few stories have slipped out over the years.
I'm glad he's still around, but it's presently impossible to see him where he lives, as everything is under lockdown. The effects of rapidly failing health, combined with this extended loneliness, is a kind of living death, and I do hope I'll see him before he passes.
For those who've already lost their family veterans, cherish their memory today.
