Re: Detention

At Aptos in the early 60s the lads would be given five days of "yard duty" for varied minor infractions. One would go around a particular area and pick up trash throughout the lunch period. For greater sins there was a paddle or even a fist. A number of the male teachers and administrators would be in deep trouble today for their tendency to be an adult bully today. It was a different time.

At Commodore Sloat we would receive a detention slip, which we had to have signed by a parent. The penalty was 40 minutes after school. Usually the time was spent doing homework or occasionally sprucing up the room.
