Re: Spinning Tops Games

I did some top spinning in the 30/40's, but was not very good at it. Seems the more-winning players had expensive and sophisticated tops that performed better.

About this time, a top was developed that had a spring-loaded tip that provided a shock absorbing landing, allowing a better chance for the top to stay in the 3-foot circle. It didn't skip as much when landing.

An oddity, a "split" top was developed that was a little more hefty and had a very sharp pointed tip! The idea was slam the top down onto the opposing top, splitting it in half, thereby winning the game. Good luck to that! I never saw it done. It was tough enough to land in 3-foot circle!
