Woody recently sent me a note from a reader who asked about a comment that I made in a previous STREETWISE article regarding…CAKE BOXES—specifically the color of cake boxes in the past. The reader wondered if the color that was mentioned actually began with various donut shops in the Los Angeles area in the mid-1970s. So, after I completed an informal and completely unscientific poll among friends who grew up locally in the 1950s and 1960s (in the Richmond, Sunset, Parkside, Marina, and Daly City), the universal answer was that local cake boxes have almost always been PINK. Readers—what do you remember about the color of bakery boxes when you were growing up??
