Richard, couched as it is in the fashion you pose it your question has been kicked around by many including our parents and grandparents. I'd suggest that an influencing factor to the manner of speech and use of expressions is mass media and product advertising. Local manners of speech, colloquial terms, and regional accents that once could identify a person’s upbringing have blurred. Of course spelling and writing skills were stunted for a great many in previous generations who didn’t matriculate much beyond grade school. With the advent of hand held, thumb touch communication sentence length and spell-glyphs are on the ascent. These are my kwik thoughts on the topic.
