I remember the slot car place near Playland. You're correct that it operated for just about a year. It was right as Playland was closing, around 1972 or '73. This was long after the slot car fad had passed, and it was doomed from the start. My guess is that the closing of Playland left a number of businesses in the area high and dry, so the rent must have been quite low to invite such a marginal venture.
