I've an early childhood recollection of gazing in amazement at the merchandise in the Bon-Omi store while orbiting a route around whatever aisle my mom or dad would stop and consider a purchase from. It seemed that adults always took so long to buy something so I'd drift away to the items that amused me. At mid-century there were still vestige links to furnishings, tools, appliances, dry-goods and everyday necessities and handy items that one doesn't see or think about in these present times of mass produced, planned obsolescent, consumption. The Bon-Omi store was referenced in my parent's conversations with a sense of dependable assurance that you could obtain what you needed and if not there then a trip to Sears might be next.
