Sorry to hear about this and never knew about Herb's deli.
That must of been a popular name on Tavaval because I'm 98 percent sure that there was once a Herb's coffee shop or something like that on or near the corner of the South side(sunny side)of 24th and Taraval Street. Maybe someone else can confirm that. And people told me that many years before that it used to be an ice cream shop.
