Unlike Jo Anne's experience, I LOVED the water. I remember swimming at Larsen Pool on weekends and occasionally in the evenings.

I also clearly remember that in public high school, we had to pass a mandatory swimming test where we were required to swim the length of Larsen from the deep end to the shallow end. I guess they figured if we lived near the ocean we should know how to swim. I'm sure the City has since done away with that requirement.
