The Sky Tram lasted until 1965 or so. It was part of the Disney-ization of the Whitney/Playland/Sutro empire, but never quite caught on.
The tram never did make money; too slow, and capacity wasn't enough to turn a profit even when it did run full.
The station late became the National Park Service's fondly remembered Cliff House visitor center.
