I bought a surfboard from O'Neil in 1956--I still have it. My recollection was that he was working out of a garage near Sloat on 47th, (if that is the last avenue before the Great Highway). It was one of the first polyfoam core boards he made and he hadn't quite figured out how to do it. Overall the board worked except the fiberglass developed bubbles after the first long exposure to the sun. Man, was it heavy!
