It certainly was a gentler time.

I think that if any parent allowed their child as much freedom that we had, they'd be charged with child neglect.

One of the skills that my parents made sure I learned was how to get home from just about anywhere. After being gone for about 50 years I still remember that the 6 bus would get me about a block from home.
