Interesting tread. Here is a list of SF high schools
http://www.greatschools.org/california/san-francisco/high-schools/

Most are names I don't recall from the 60's; however, they seem to be rated highly. Given the demographics of the City, I think it might be a good idea to have students attend a school outside of their immediate neighborhood. Hell, the best education I received was from taking Muni.

This might also give schools a chance to "specialize' in a given area of education such as industrial arts, dramatics, computer sciences and remove any stigma these career paths may hold for students. In my day, kids in these areas where often ridiculed and yet, today, if your car or computer breaks down you don't call a popular jock.

In the valley of the Nerds, the four eyed man is king!

Cheers,
jb
