To Whom It May Concern,
My mother Francoise used to take me to the Surf Theatre throughout my childhood even when we lived in Sausalito and Mill Valley. I remember a Saturday night in 1963 when I as an eight year old and saw BICYCLE THIEF and FORBIDDEN GAMES, two films my mother had seen in Switzerland as a young woman and insisted I see.
I am the film critic for INSIDE THE VATICAN magazine and when writing my article THE TEN BEST FILMS EVER MADE placed both of those films on my Ten Best list. The Surf stayed with me throughout the seventies, seeing FACE TO FACE there and revivals of KLUTE, DON’T LOOK NOW, and a Beatles marathon of A HARD DAY’S NIGHT, HELP and YELLOW SUBMARINE. So many wonderful memories and that wonderful cafe next door. Please check out my website at www.ethansfilmreviews.com.
God bless,
Ethan Nielson
