Yes, Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May, is to remember those fallen and lost in war.
Veteran's Day, originally Armistice Day, November 11th is to honor those who served in the nation's defense in war and peace time.

Here's a less told story of a portion of our community, many whom and their family moved from Chinatown to live and grow up in the Outsidelands.
