Should have mentioned this earlier. There is one, only one, American veteran of World War I still living. His name is Frank Buckles and he enlisted at age 16 in 1917. He is currently 109 years of age. He served in France near the front lines driving an ambulance. He is currently working to build a World War I memorial in Washington DC on the Mall.
When I was a little kid in the 1930s going to Parkside School,a surprizing number of my classmate's fathers were veterans of that long ago war. My father,Frank H. Grant, also was a veteran of that conflict.
On this Memorial Day let's pause and remember the veterans of all the wars this country has been involved.
