Jo Annne,
I cherished that little blue bank book of my savings account with a Bank of America branch at 38th and Balboa. At St. Thomas the Apostle we brought in our nickels and dimes deposited in little brown envelopes on a Tuesday and by Friday our saving books were returned with our deposit duly noted and dated. I had up to 16 bucks in it before my parents saved me from the nuns and I transferred to Presidio in the Seventh Grade. The frugal habit of saving $$ has served me well through a lifetime where the exception to the rule is to pay cash for purchases large and small. A.P. Giannini wouldn’t have it any other way for the common people he had in mind when he started the Bank of Italy.
