I have been researching John Swett School (had an Aunt who taught there in the 40s and 50s), and one photo on the SF Public Library site showed student "bank books."

It made me recall those little programs where grammar schools had "banks," issued little savings books, and encouraged kids to deposit a small weekly amount (like a dime, or something). I do not remember if St. Cecilia had a setup like this. Maybe they did, but I know I didn't participate.

Do you recall if your school had a program like this? If so, did you have a bank book? More importantly, what did you do with the money you saved?
