The previous poster makes a point that the Chron has often displayed "attitude" towards outsiders, but let's not dis the whole industry because of this.

Case in point--a young woman named Katharine Meyer began working for the Washington Post in 1938. Fast forward to 1972 when, as Post publisher Katharine Graham, she took a chance on a hot story from a couple of young reporters named Woodward and Bernstein and supported their efforts to inform the public about something they had discovered. The rest, as they say, is history...

Had the same story emerged on a blogger's page, it is questionable whether or not it would have received the same international attention, or been shot down by others and completely forgotten.
