I was about knee high to a grasshopper. The only clear memories of that time are:
1) Being outside during a blackout and being walked home by the Warden. I had been sent to our neighborhood store by my mother.;
2) Staying with the oldest of my sisters at my Grandparents home in Santa Rosa while my mother was giving birth to my youngest sister in 1943; and
3) Starting Kindergarten at Madison Grammar School in September 1943 and feeling totally lost for the first few days.
