Boris-I remember jimmy's coffee shop well, used to hang out there when I was just a little tyke of 8 or 9.
The older teenagers hung out playing pinball and the jukebox.
JIMMY used to make the fries from whole potatoes that he cut with a hand-cranked slicer. The burgers were advertised as "basket burgers" because they were served in a plastic basket with the fries.
I knew a lot of neighborhood kids worked their including some of my friends.
I was always leery about eating the food because the place was a classic "greasy spoon" and I stuck to cokes and fries.
Your cockroach story confirms my hesitation (all these years later)lol.
By the way, we always referred to it as "Jimmy the Greeks"
