ACT Art Conservation, The Great Highway gallery, and Western Neighborhoods Project (WNP) invite you to join us as we say bon voyage to The Museum at The Cliff in the former Cliff House Restaurant and Gift Shop on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 4:30pm.
It's been an honor to serve you local art and history in this iconic location at the edge of the western world since October 2021, and now it's time for us to move aside so the building can relaunch as a new restaurant under the stewardship of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. But, before we go, we want to party like's it's 1909 (see what we did there??)!
Doors open at 4:30pm and the party will begin with an indoor reception. Guests are invited to experience our special exhibition, Naiad Cove, for the final time while mingling with the people who made it happen. There will be fun refreshments, live music, and a little bit of speechifying as we mark this watershed moment for everyone involved.
The evening will end at sundown, as we all walk outside to toast Ben Wood's projected artworks that illuminate the windows in the former Cliff House Restaurant and Gift Shop one last time!
Using a variety of photographic media, Ben showcases the bohemian surf culture of Kelly's Cove and the vibrant legacy of Playland at the Beach, which once graced Great Highway until its demolition 50 years ago this month. His animated projections bring together newly-digitized and never before seen films and footage from the Prelinger Archives with photographs submitted by members of the public and historic snapshots from the OpenSFHistory Archive.
Tickets are $10 for WNP Members and $20 for Non-Members. Museum volunteers and contributing artists are invited to attend for free. Please use the special promo code you were given in advance when reserving a ticket. Don't have that code?? Email WNP Executive Director Nicole Meldahl (nicole@outsidelands.org) or The Great Highway gallery's John Lindsey (info@greathighway.com) to get that golden ticket.
Tickets are not required to enjoy the final screening of Ben's projections, which are outside and accessible to the public. We hope you can BYOB and join the outdoor party with us as well!
