Re: Anyone Rember Barts and Leaguers?

I grew up in Westlake in the 1950s and '60s and remember hearing rumors of the Barts. THey supposedly ruled "top of the hill" in old Daly City and were not to be messed with. Pegged levis and switchblades were part of the lore. I never met a Bart, but in my young imagination I figured they must be like the Sharks or Jets from "West Side Story." Yeah, sure.

The three-button thing didn't enter into my world. As a product of Catholic grammar schools I had no choice in what I wore until high school. (Let's see, shall I wear a white shirt and gray corduroy trousers today, or should I try the gray cords with a white shirt?)

Even in high school, the approved wardrobe always stipulated collared shirts. Guess the Jesuits had heard about the Barts.
