I grew up in the 50's on Arguello Blvd. My parents would send us to the Coronet for the Saturday Matinee. They would give us a quarter... 20 cents to get in, with a nickel left over for a box of candy or popcorn. That was about 4 hours of entertainment as there were always newsreels, cereals, and a double feature. The theatre was jam-packed with neighborhood kids. Sometimes we would get 50 cents, and that would allow us to get a hot dog and a coke after the show at Freddies across the street from the Coronet.
