Oh, yes. You and I were probably there about the same time. I had my first lessons in about 1953-54. I was nine. Boots purchased from Goodwill or St. Vincents. I did have a helmet, but I doubt it was much protection. I lived in the Haight, so walked across the Panhandle up to in front of the old Lowell H.S. to get the #21 bus to 7th and Fulton. We did do group rides in GGP. I first took from Mr. Morgan, who had taught my MOTHER back in the '20s!! Then Nina Genissman (sp?). She and her husband had two Arabians boarded there. My favorite horse was Maggie, but I always wanted to ride Freckles (my first Appaloosa love), but he (?) was considered a horse only for "advanced" riders. ;0) It's a love that has stayed with me. I'm nearly 79 and still riding, have my own horse (the sixth I have owned since around 1970).
