The pre-WWII days are the ones I remember best, probably because I was a small kid at the time. St. Francis Wood was the place to see! Many of the large homes were beautifully decorated with lights & figures. The best decorated block in the Parkside district was, for many years, the 2500 block of 18th Ave., where every house was decorated. My favorite of all was the "bubble house" on Crestlake Dr., right above the rim of Mud Lake. From behind a garden wall, there was a device that released clouds of soap bubbles which rose into the air illuminated by colored flood lights....
