John in my high school years there were none of those neighborhood pools about nine of them that you speak of. They were not constructed. Shortly after they were built. So swimming in a pool was more difficult in the Sunset District. When I attended SH I was able to take a Lifesaving course at Crystal Plunge conducted by Charlie Sava after passing the swim test. During this time I believe it was mandatory for high school students to know how to swim. Though it was never enforced.
