One of the big changes in high school sports in this era was when the the AAA league was disbanded. A story in itself. As other sports go soccer was almost unknown. What! A sport were you can’t use your hands. We didn’t even know the rules. I don’t recall any soccer leagues. One problem basketball had was there were few gyms. We played in CYO leagues in church converted halls, cafeterias etc. I recall Cub Scout baseball became popular but baseball basketball and football dominated. The City was never swim oriented. To this day SF never has had a high school swimming pool. The few swim meets were held at Fleishacker pool which was not conducive for time records. Today S.I. Is the only high in town has a pool and it is a private school.
