Just received a nice email from a reader with a Christmas memory that is well over 50 years old:

"I am 83 and used to live above the drug store at 18th & Taraval. My dad was the doctor who had his office there. This season, having a piano after many years without one, I was reminded of how, when 18th Avenue was lighted for Christmas, I used to open our upstairs window and play Christmas carols on the piano as loud as I could, thinking I was entertaining the waiting folks in their cars. I share this with you because I think it is amusing…Those lights were great."

I remember hearing piano music a couple of times in the 1950s, but thought it was just someone's hi-fi--even though I did not see any open windows. Nice to know the source all these years later!
