In some ways, maybe it does. (Disclaimer: I did not grow up in SF or even the Bay Area.)

Kushner was born in 1968, so she's 50 this year. That means she was a teenager during the 1980s. That era was one of "big hair." (For some, at least.) When she describes the Irish-American daughters of cops, partiers with big hair who wanted to get pregnant and get married straight out of high school, I don't think she means that every girl was like that. And TBH, who didn't know at least some girls like that, wherever they may have grown up? ;)
