Amazing reading. It was quite a year--starting off with a newspaper strike that ran through most of January and February. No pink section, sporting green, comics, financial pages, Dear Abby, letters to the editor, Herb Caen, etc. for more than 6 weeks. Worst of all for Irish-Catholics--no obituary notices! How did we ever figure out who died and when the rosary and funeral were scheduled? People had to make lots of phone calls during that strike to keep track.
