Tim--Absolutely right! Department stores began abandoning customer service 25 years ago when "salespeople" were re-christened "associates"--in fact, mere cashiers. I have a retired friend who worked for Macy's when he was in college in the 1970s. He decided to go back for a short stint as a Christmas extra in 2016. He reported that "Training" was a very brief few hours on how new cash registers worked, and little more. One of the most detailed segment of the 8-hour training was a very detailed segment on "The Active Shooter" with the advice: "RUN, HIDE, FIGHT--in that order". After hearing that, he decided that retail had definitely changed for the worse and stayed retired.
