I remember Skateland in the '50s. There were no problems with gangs then and I don't remember it being dirty but perhaps my memory has wiped out that part. My girlfriends and I great fun there on Saturday nights. There were some sailors there and that made it seem even more of an adventure. I recall that I was forbidden to ever give my phone number to any boy I met there!
