I would like to up date my last post about the Manager of Skateland in the 40's and 50's Red Shattick. I read that Red had passed in 2005 and that he was a icon to roller sports not only in the Bay Area but across the Nation. I remember Red as a promoter not only in competitive dance and figure roller skating but he promoted roller hockey while at Skateland. I read that this also carried through the years and Red was involved in the roller inline hockey that we know today. As a boy skating at Skateland I would try out a hockey stick and ball just for the fun of it, at that time I didn't know that in a few years I would be playing ice hockey and go on as a simi-pro player. I just wanted to share this experience as I remember Red Shattick and his influence on me while growing up at Skatelnd.
