Most touching, Frank. Thanks for this column as I believe many of us are at that age where we start attending more funerals than weddings and graduations. Attending a funeral may be the ultimate unselfish act since the departed will most likely not return the favor.
I'm with you...Carrickfergus will be played at my funeral and I get a tear in my eye when I hear it, perhaps due to the apprehension of the inevitable. For those of you who won't be attending, here 'tis

For those of you who will, I've asked Shortcake to toss me on the Weber, scatter my ashes off Pt. Pinos and have a beach party with lots of Irish whisky, good food and as many jokes as can be told. I'd want laughter to be my legacy.
Now off to take my Lipitor since, while I may be at peace with my maker, I'm in no hurry to meet him or her.
And as Frank's column touches a nerve, perhaps it will move us to connect with someone who has lost a close connection recently. Personally, I always fear I will not know what to say to the bereaved; yet, saying nothing is not the reason we are here. Life is tough and dying is tougher: Death is the easy part.
L'Chaim,
jb
