From what I read in Wikipedia, Maya Angelou did attend George Washington HS but didn't graduate, leaving school because she was pregnant, giving birth to a son when she was 17. She would have been using her given name, Marguerite (or "Rita"" Johnson. I can't get a firm confirmation that she ever graduated from a San Francisco high school, but might have used the Adult Division, possibility held at Mission HS. That is just speculation. George Washington does claim her on it's list of distinguished students online and her photo is in the school honor case on the main floor.
