Here's a not-too-facetious proposal. If the soccer field is to be turned into artificial turf (about which I have mixed feelings), then Rec Park could mitigate the impacts by removing the polo fields.
Really, how much of a demand is there by the polo-playing community that a mega-hunk of the Park has to be devoted to their sport?
And yes I know the field is a historic feature of the park, but it could easily be argued that returning this part of John McClaren's original vision would be in keeping with the overall 1870s historic landscape design of the park.
(OK, now I brace myself for flaming responses from all the polo and jogging enthusiasts who consider the polo field holy ground.}
