Back when I was a kid here in the city, we had our games right after school during the school week. We didn't have to worry about lights because it was still light out! These days, parents can't get off work to watch their kids and also to COACH the kids - Volunteer coaches are the only ones available and have daytime jobs - lights are now a necessity - the old days of weekday games are no longer possible!!!!
My kids practiced at Beach Chalet and at Speedway Meadows. They played their soccer games all over the city and twisted, strained and even sprained their ankles on the uneven grounds provided by the flora and fauna at GGP. Having a turf field would be great - there would be more playtime for kids and adults and noone would be able to see the lights from the middle of the freaking park unless they were the homeless trying to find a dark place to hide for the night.
I am sick of tired of the NIMBY attitude by these transplants from back East - there is plenty of park for everyone - McLaren forced a sanddune into a fake environment, now a very small part is being readjusted for the wellbeing of the now and future athletes - move with the times people or move to Inverness!
