No, they don't jb. And I am quite sure they did not think this up all by their little old selves. I see Mommy and Daddy "my baby deserves nothing but the best" behind this garbage. (Sorry if I sound nasty, but I'm feeling rather nasty!)
Kids playing in and around vacant spaces, without repercussions, has gone by the wayside - insurance issues, swarming lawyers etc. I think of my friends cavorting around the sand and rock areas of where Hoover Jr. High eventually was built.
If Beaver skinned his knee while playing a casual game of catch with Larry and Whitey in Metzger's Field today, the Cleavers, the Whitneys, and the Mondellos would be sueing the butt off of whomever owned the lot!!
Gilbert and Richard would be the ones demanding better turf and lighting...because that's the way they were.
Meanwhile Wally would be rolling his eyeballs, Lumpy would be whining about how he never got the chance to play in a "neat" field, and Eddie would be looking for a way to be joined into the lawsuit...or partnering with Gilbert and Richard to push the city to provide perks...either to his financial benefit.
