Seems that among the electronic mix of the past, there was also a Heinz sign somewhere along the waterfront that simply read "57" as in "57 Varieties". Also, along the Skyway coming into SF from the Bay Bridge there was another large sign in bold red neon script for Canadian Club--and not being old enough to read at age 3 or 4 (much less be acquainted with Canadian whiskey), I immediately equated that sign with the similar writing on the Campbell Soup label. It was sometime in the late 1950s that the tide began to turn against outdoor advertising, and Southern Pacific agreed to remove the large "S-P" sign from the rooftop of its #1 Market Street headquarters building.
